The duck is still here. The cigarette remains. The heavy eyes remain. The exhaustion remains. Yet somehow, it keeps floating. What began as a playful childhood symbol becomes a portrait of resilience mixed with emotional fatigue—a familiar character drifting through modern life with equal parts irony and determination. The bright colors and oversized scale create a tension between humor and vulnerability, inviting viewers to recognize something of themselves beneath the surface. Part of the Happy Never After series, the work explores the quiet ways people adapt, endure, and continue moving forward, even when they feel disconnected from the world around them. Created in acrylic on canvas, with visible brushwork and textured surfaces that emphasize both the physical presence of the work and the emotional weight it carries.

Muriel Elmaleh is a contemporary artist whose work moves between abstract expression, dark pop imagery, and emotionally charged symbolism. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, she explores themes of identity, nostalgia, emotional tension, and modern psychological survival through color, gesture, distortion, and contrast.
