רימונים נחים כמו מנחות שקטות. בתוך גרעיניהם חי סיפור פרספונה. על פי המיתוס העתיק, פרספונה אכלה מפרי העולם התחתון ונקשרה לשני העולמות — החיים והמתים. מדי שנה מביאה שיבתה את האביב, וצאתה מולידה את החורף. דרכה הפך הרימון לסמל של חיים בתוך המוות, של חזרה בתוך האובדן. פרי הקושר את החיים לשאול, ומזכיר שכל ירידה נושאת עמה הבטחה לאור.
